David Warner was named the Delhi Capitals’ captain for the 2023 Indian Premier League on Thursday. The season’s replacement for the Australian has been announced as Axar Patel. In the position, Warner will take over for Rishabh Pant, who will be sidelined for the duration of the campaign as the wicketkeeper-batter continues to heal from a serious car accident in December of last year.
Warner started his IPL debut in 2009 with the Delhi franchise (formerly the Delhi Daredevils), however he subsequently shifted to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Warner was fired from the franchise and finally made a comeback to Delhi following a dispute with the team management in the 2021 edition.
